My interest in Pop Art began in high school art class during the late 60's. Andy Warhol was an early inspiration & I was fortunately able to follow his career & the impact he had on all the arts as it was happening.
In the early 70's I started photo-silkscreening & eventually had a studio in Gastown where I produced custom & original prints & graphics. I also periodically attended the Vancouver Art School (now Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design) to learn about silk screening & generally soak up the atmosphere. This is the period where I developed my way of "seeing". Around this time I started to collect objects to include in my photographs & it has evolved to the point where they are the main object. I collect over 200 objects that are divided into series of 3 & 100. Triangles & Tim Hortons paraphernalia are the most numerous with over 5000 of each. Nothing is purchased for the collections, they are either found, recycled or given to me. I refer to these images as "litter art" since my subjects are intercepted on the way to the recycling or garbage bin.
The images are photo-based with no filters, cloning or manipulation of the original scene. I manipulate the color & visual texture using a method I'm comfortable with after experimenting & establishing my style. I like to take a commonplace object & create something that may not be recognizable but unique on its own.
I currently live and work in the Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada area.
